If tartan frightens you, particularly after you saw Blake Lively in it the other day..then you are not alone. The good news is, as everyone scrambles to adapt some form of plaid to their fall wardrobe there are some fashionistas out there that are paving the way for a gentler fall trend…the knit dress with deep side slit.
Ultimately it doesn’t matter what the fall runways have deemed fashionable, it is the consumer that will buy or not ‘buy’ it as a trend. Then there are the trends that never made it to the runways yet fill the high street stores and streets. This knit dress trend is looking like one of those hero pieces that will make it to our wardrobes with or without the blessing of the catwalk.
It would be fair to mention that the runways were filled with streamline dresses, long fitted and plain, the one that predicted this knit version trend was Jacquemus.
If the thought of a knit dress immediately conjures nightmare underwear and ‘fat day’ scenarios, relax. There are different types of knits out there, some thicker than others. Choose the knit and fit that suits your body type best. Not too keen on the slit, that’s ok too, wear a pair of knitted leggings underneath in a similar color or match it to a contrasting long skirt for a more modest look.
