3 Denim Styles to Consider This Fall Season

Denim Styles

You are probably wondering what would compel you to put jeans on again.  Since Mid March our indoor and outdoor staple has been the drawstring pant, in the softest fabric out there, from French terry and cotton blend wovens to cashmere, bamboo and modal, there has never been more need and reason to dress in loungewear all day every day.

Although the COVID numbers are surging worldwide, humanity as a whole has decided to come out of hibernation and face the fact that hiding from COVID is not going to eliminate it, and that perhaps a more cautionary approach is more reasonable.  Which means we will need to hang up out joggers and dress up once again.  Denim, that fall staple is finally back, and there are three trends that rule this season.  Read on.

The Ultra-Baggy Jean

Denim Styles

It was expected really, if we can’t wear our sweats then a close second is the ultra-baggy denim style in an ultra-soft jean fabric in light colored shades of blue, to match the distressed nature of the fabric.  Look for jeans with a regular high waist or even a paper-bag waistband.  This style is generally worn extra long, creating a lazy puddle around the shoes.  Naturally this style is best matched to a chunky, comfortable sneaker or combat boot.  As for what to wear on top, well a bathrobe style cardigan or coat naturally, leaving it open for added effect.  Although this style does seem to be the most casual and lazy, there is an air of elegance that can be created using luxurious fabric choices.  There is nothing shabby about a fabulous faux shearling coat in a bathrobe style.  Or perhaps a print knit cardigan in the color of the season.  Beware little women, this style is made for tall people with a substantial build.  The smaller you are, the less fabric you will need, you can still pull it off, but with less drama.  Pass on the puddling and the completely oversized outerwear.  Keep things flowing, just make sure they don’t weigh you down.

The High Waisted Wide Leg Jean

Denim Styles

This is really a timeless classic, the sort of pant you are able to pull out reliably every season (which makes investing in a good pair crucial). This time round, the style is modernized with a patchwork finish.  A variety of denim shades coming together.  Worn with a great pair of heels, this could in fact be one of the only denim styles to allow you to glam things up a little, so go all out!  This season’s cropped jacket seems to be the perfect pairing to the wide leg jean. Make sure the jacket is cropped enough to show your waist, otherwise you will have missed out on a great opportunity to create a womanly silhouette.

The Eighties Straight Leg

Denim Styles

This is a high-waisted tapered denim style that is relatively wide in the leg, and will remind you of the Eighties.  The length of this jean will depend on the shoe you choose, as it comes in a cropped length and an ankle.  Anything longer will not work with this season’s loafers or ankle-height outdoor boot type.  Allow the leg to sit comfortably above your shoe or boot, without actually touching it.  This basically means you may own this jean in more than one length.  So why this relatively basic jean?  To match your favorite oversized blazer with of course!  This style can carry a chunky sweater also, in addition to a coat in any length or style.  So there is reason to the basic-ness of the jean, it will not overpower your complete look.  It is also generous enough to carry something voluminous on top.  A skinnier pant or something narrower in the leg will not be as modern as a good old-fashioned mom-jean.
