The power of a simple white shirt is undeniable! Call me biased but when one third of my closet is made up of white shirts then I probably have a problem …. or not! A white button-down shirt is a clothing staple that no wardrobe can do without no matter the season. The are paired with pants, dresses, skirts, shorts, cycling short… you name it. And they can easily be dressed up or down. However, white shirts version 20.20 are much more creative and detailed, think ruffles, drapes, wrap around shirts, and cutouts. Yet this doesn’t mean you should go ahead and ditch your trusted old button-downs. Below are a few white shirt trends that are sure to make you drool. IF a shirt combines more than one trend then all the better. Enjoy!
1 || Draping
Draping in white shirts can take all shapes and forms. Draping can be flow-y or ruched, and it can be creatively done within the body of the shirt just like the Alexander Wang number below.
2 || Detailed
Little details of all kinds are welcome on white shirts this season, think ruffles, bows, feathers, and lace. The sky’s the limit here.
3 || Cutout
Tasteful cutouts are all the rage this season. There is no item of clothing that wouldn’t benefit from a little game of peek-a-boo, be it on the chest, shoulder, hip, or back.
4 || Belted
Belted white shirts are perhaps the safest option if you want to shake things up a teeny tiny bit.
5 || Asymmetrical
This is perhaps one of my most favourite trends. Asymmetry can be found around the neckline, the hem, or as a general silhouettes.
6 || Puff-Sleeves
The uber-romantic puff-sleeves are still going strong. The puff-sleeves are usually paired with a slim-fitting silhouette but this is definitely not a rule.
7 || Tie-Front
Tie-front shirts are perhaps best described as an oldie but a goodie. Newer versions of the tie-front shirts come with a detachable tie, all the better if it comes in a different color just like the Tibi version below.
