Tights or no tights that is the question! Well, not exactly …things are not quite so black and white; there’s so much to be discussed here. Black tights or nude? Tights with sneakers and sandals or no can do? There are some rules to obey when it comes to wearing tights; and at times you need to make your own informed decisions so what are the rules….
1 || Tights Are Only For Winter
Before the 1st of October you are forbidden to wear tights no matter the weather. Same goes for April; take your tights off on the 1st of April, again come rain or shine! However, tights worn for their stylishness such as fishnets or lace can be sneaked in whenever you want.
2 || The Case For Nude Tights
I personally loathe nude tights; no offence everyone! However, I might be convinced to put a pair on only if I apply these rules…which make absolute sense to me. Nude tights are NOT allowed during summer. During winter, if you must wear nude tights, make sure they are matte in finish and that they match your skin tone EXACTLY. People shouldn’t be able to tell that you are wearing a pair.
3 || Keep It Classy
When wearing black tights it is best to keep it simple and classy! However, don’t be afraid from sporting pairs that come in prints, zigzags, or stripes when they’re back in trend.
4 || Sheen
You can afford to go for black tights with a slight sheen on more glamorous occasions, key word here being SLIGHT!
5 || Tights With Sneakers
You can pair your tights with sneakers if you want to attain the jersey dress look for instance. BEWARE however, from adding socks over these tights.
6 || ToeLess Tights
Some manufacturers have responded to increasing demands for toeless tights that can be paired with open-toe sandals. Though this may seem like a revelation, but our advice is that you can only wear those in a shade that exactly matches your skin tone, otherwise imagine a leg clad in black with nude toes peeking out.
7 || Tights With Sandals
You can get away with pairing tights with open-toe sandals if you must, but make sure to wear super sheers; an 8-denier will do. Additionally make sure to invest in tights that don’t have toe reinforcement, meaning that they’re not shaded in the toe area.
8 || Opaque Tights
When going for super short dresses and micro skirts and shorts opt for opaque tights. Otherwise you can also wear them instead of your sheer blacks if that’s what you prefer.
9 || Tights With A Black Dress
When pairing tights with a short formal dress, definitely go for ultra sheer black.
10 || When In Doubt.
