COVID-19 has made us all obsessed with our health and immunity. We tend to make it stronger in all available ways, we might even try things that we are not really convinced with. The good news is that your body gives you signs when it comes to your health, it tells you whether you are healthy enough or you need to give it extra care. Here are some signs your immune system is weakened, and how to make it strong again.
1 || Wounds Don’t Heal Fast
When we get a burn or a wound our immune system heals it with white and red blood cells. White blood cells help fight off infection while red blood cells help build new tissue. But when our immune system is weakened, the healing process slows down.
The solution: you need to consult your doctor if you have any health condition that causes poor blood circulation such as diabetes.
2 || You Are Always Stressed
Chronic stress causes inflammation and this weakens your immune system. So if you felt sick after a stressful situation or project this might be the reason. Stress lowers the production of white blood cells which are responsible for fighting infections in our bodies.
The solution: find healthy ways to relieve stress like meditation, yoga, a good workout, walking in nature, or even calling a friend. Your immune system will thank you for it.
3 || You Catch Cold Easily
Ok before you begin to worry you need to take your lifestyle into consideration. So, if you are new to a place where you can be exposed to a lot of bacteria then it might be normal. Otherwise, you might have a weak immune system.
The solution: check your vitamin D levels. Studies show that vitamin D deficiency may weaken your immune system. Taking vitamin D supplements may solve the issue. Talk to your doctor about the best amount for you. The right dosage depends on where you live, your age, your skin tone, and how much sunscreen you wear.
4 || You Feel Tired All The Time
If you don’t suffer from anemia, sleep apnea, an endocrine disorder, or any underlying condition then your immune system is maybe trying to tell you that it needs more attention. A study has shown that when your immune system is fighting to keep you healthy it may get you tired, cause this needs energy. This may lead to a poor night’s sleep which of course weaken your immune responses.
The solution: make sure you have a good night’s sleep by keeping your bedroom dark, cool, and only for sleep. You can also drink herbal relaxing tea before bed or do some bed yoga or meditation.
5 || You Go To The Bathroom… A lot
While chronic diarrhea or constipation could happen for a lot of reasons, they can be a sign of a weak immune system. Or they could be a sign of stress and we’ve discussed stress above.
The solution: eating a diet high in added sugars, refined grains, and trans and saturated fats can lead to immune dysfunction and disrupt the gut microbiome. Since our gut plays a role in our immunity, consuming a balanced, healthy diet can also support our immune system.
