Who is Banksy ?
Banksy is an anonymous British graffiti artist and political activist. His art is dark humor and satirical street art. The style is executed in a distinctive stencil technique.
When Did Banksy First Come to Palestine ?
Banksy first arrived in Palestine in August 2005 to paint on the barrier wall dividing Israel and Palestine. During his visit he painted a number of tromp l’oeils depicting the hardship of the Palestinians under the wall.
Banksy’s Wall Art in Gaza 2014
After the 2014 war on Gaza, Banksy was smuggled into Gaza to paint some murals on the ruins of Gaza. These murals include a version of Rodin’s classic The Thinker, this time depicting a despaired thinker. There is also the mural of the greatest outdoors prison in the world, in addition to a lonely kitten stranded amongst the ruins. The last is a poignant quote that rings true with us all.
Bansky’s Video on Gaza
Banksy took advantage of his visit to Gaza of 2014 to create a video of the appalling conditions in the city. The subtitled video sheds crucial light on the plight of the Palestinian people.
