It’s interesting how things that are ok during the year are frowned upon during the holidays. These unwritten rules stem from the attitude of the festive season. You may argue that this is you and you can’t change it, truth is we all need to pick our battles. CIIN gives you the lowdown.
1 || Too Much To Drink
Cocktail parties come with plenty of cocktails, for those who drink please don’t be the only person in the room that doesn’t know that you have had one too many. Alternate your alcoholic drinks with glasses of water and there really is nothing wrong with ordering the occasional diet coke.
2 || Flirting with a Married Man
Festive seasons always involve people from may walks of life. People come together to celebrate which means that there is an opportunity to meet new people and possible love interests. With a couple of drinks in your system can fast track your getting friendly with someone. Rule of thumb, ask him flat out if he is in a relationship or married. Those men that don’t wear their rings and forget to mention their significant other are also usually the most charming too…
3 || Dressing A Little Too Seductively
There is an unwritten rule about the festivities, we are all there to celebrate the year in a wholesome manner. Being inappropriately dressed at these events will not do you any favors in the popularity department. The women will not take too kindly to you, as for the men, perhaps a little too kindly…
4 || Being Too Loud
Please don’t try and be the life of the party, it’s actually embarrassing to the people around you. They may smile in your face, but ultimately you may come across as a hot mess. Be friendly and cordial, just don’t overdo it, it’s actually unnecessary. If you want to tell people how fun you are perhaps consider writing a blog !
5 || The Drama Queen
No one is bothered about how you are feeling, no one is bothered about bothering you. And the woman you think is ignoring you probably has better things to do… The sooner you come to terms with the fact that it’s not really about you at all, the sooner everyone can have a good time. Don’t under-estimate the weight that negativity can have on a party…
6 || Don’t Be Insincere
If there is one thing that is special about the holiday season it is the good cheer and genuine feelings that come out. Tell people that you care about them by showing up, sending gifts or small notes. By the same token, you should make an effort to remain sincere, if you don’t like someone don’t try too hard to pretend that you do. There is no need…The holidays are all about people getting together in a crapped space, you don’t need to all like each other. Be cordial and stay out of each other’s hair.
