French brand Jacquemus, created by Simon Porte in 2019 skyrocketed to fame almost instantly. Simon’s respect for traditional tailoring methods, merged with his bold vision, and indifference to fashion trends, made him a household name. Although the price point is good when compared to other brands, the cuts are not always realistic to us mere mortals. Because after all, what we love to see and what we love to wear are quite different. Simon has remained true to his vision, which means that he has not bent to the demands of the high street. This had left a great big hole of potential for all those Jacquemus appreciators, that are willing to make clothes that are Jacquemus-like, just easier to wear. Here are our 8 current favorites.
1 || Jonathan Simkhai
It’s not easy being a small independent company, and anyone viewing the Simkhai Collection recently will see a new direction that is in fact more versatile, and possibly more commercially viable. Today you will find wonderful knit separates and paperbag waist pants, in Jacquemus-like color combinations of cheerful fuchsia and pale yellow. The brand was best known in the past for its great cocktail dresses in wonderful textures such as guipure and a thick knit. You can still find these, there is just so much more, particularly if you are a Jacquemus fan!
2 || Christopher Esber
We really love Christopher Esber at CIIN, and again it has a lot to do with how true he is to his vision. Something that him and Jacquemus’ Simon Porte have in common. Since founding his label in Sydney in 2010, Christopher Esber has built a global reputation for precision tailoring and a purity of expression that he employs to create silhouettes of structured fluidity that whisper rather than shout.
His background in tailoring has allowed the integration of structural menswear techniques across all pieces in his collections. Mixed masculine and feminine codes have been reformed with a sophisticated approach, with elements of contemporary tailoring.
3 || Dion Lee.
Come to think of it, Dion Lee was supposed to be as successful as Jacquemus.. This cult brand is adored by many, it just never reached the mainstream. There is a softness at Jacquemus that Dion Lee decided against. The brand is strong, and unapologetically sexy, so for some it works fabulously and for others not as well. Their trademark corset belt, and bustier have been seen on the who’s who of the celebrity world. Dion Lee is an innovative luxury brand based in Australia, with a strong emphasis on construction, tailoring and experimentation.Hailed as one of the most influential designers from Australia, the essence of the Dion Lee aesthetic is unique, intelligent and sensual.
4 || Zeynep Arcay
Since 2013, Zeynep Arçay has embodies a timeless, sophisticated aesthetic that is both strong and feminine with a focus on impeccable fit, quality fabrics and handmade designs. At first, Zeynep focused on leather, as it had always been a favorite texture of hers. One that she believes has the ability to make a woman look unique, stylish and strong. Over the years the collection was rounded out with other materials also. Sifting through her latest fall collection, we find well-designed separates that can play a variety of roles in one’s wardrobe.
5 || Ushatava
Russian brand Ushatava has it all, the extensive collection of women’s and children’s wear has a very clean aesthetic which they add a dash of femininity to. The colors, mostly muted tones of beige, blush pink and black serve to accent the very interesting cuts and silhouettes. Oversized blazers sit side by side to feminine bustiers and wide-legged pants, all understated in their design elements, yet big on character and attitude.
