The biannual haute couture shows that are held in Paris every January and July of each year are perhaps the world’s most exclusive showing of the highest-end fashion out there. Favoured by the world’s elitist fashion editors and wealthiest shoppers; these shows are often fantastical iterations of another reality that is stock-full of tulle, sequins, flowers, feathers and the works. This year’s Paris Spring-Summer 2019 shows surely didn’t disappoint. Read below for the major highlights.
1 || Rami Kadi
Beirut-based couturier Rami Kadi presented his first ever runway show at Paris Couture week this year. Presenting at the Four Seasons Hotel George V, his daring and free-spirited show was inspired by Burning Man a festival that takes place in Black Rock Desert Nevada.
2 || Ashi Studio
Another proud Arab newcomer to Paris Couture Week is Ashi Studio, who took over the Ritz Carlton for a candle-lit dinner and the fashion show. His vibrant collection was inspired by the 1950s and the 1990s; full of volume and femininity. Each look was adorned with Bulgari pieces, including ones from Bulgari’s Heritage Collection. Fabulous footwear from Oscar Tiye also accompanied each outfit.
3 || Viktor & Rolf
Viktor & Rolf stunned their audiences with voluminous tulle gowns that boasted graphic statements including “Leave me alone”, “Less is more”, and “I’m not shy I just don’t like you”! So whether these were just bold statements empowering women’s moods, or just an attempt at drawing attention; whatever it was they certainly succeeded at both.
4 || Dior
Dior’s circus-themed show was held at an erected tent in the garden of the Musée Rodin. An all-female acrobat troupe was invited to perform during the runway show. Women empowerment like no other as the aim of the circus theme was to symbolise women supporting and helping other women.
5 || Chanel
Despite the fact that Karl was no where to be seen, but Chanel literally brought the French Riviera to snowy Paris. The Grand Palais was transformed into a lavish holiday villa with palm trees and a swimming pool. A bridal swimsuit was the unbelievable finale!
6 || Balmain
Balmain held their first couture showing in 16 years with the unveiling of Olivier Rousteing’s debut collection for the brand.
7 || Valentino
Pierpaolo Piccioli’s stunning collection at Valentino literally brought Celine Dion to tears. Wether it was the brand’s vibrant red-carpet collection, the 40 black models, or the fact that Naomi Campbell walked down Valentino’s runway after a 14-year absence…whatever the reason… this was one memorable couture show.
