Walmart has acquired the previously obsolete fashionista brand ‘Scoop’, signature of the noughties. The retailer will be relaunching the chic boutique as an in-house brand. Scoop was notorious for their “Scoop Girl Silhouette”, popularised on trendsetting TV shows like “Sex and the City”. Dubbed “The Ultimate Closet” back in its heyday, the trusted destination fashionable New Yorkers flocked to for pizzazz pieces, sultry night-out blouses and stilettos. Recognised as the backdrop of popular ‘90s shows, even Scoop’s shopping bags became the ‘it’ tote bag.
This is another one of Walmart Inc’s attempts to upscale its retailing reputation and boost online apparel sales, acquiring Scoop’s trademark back in 2016 upon its crash following the financial crisis. Walmart stores and website will be stocking over 100 of Scoop’s items including handbags, shoes and tops from $15 to $65 and available in sizes XS-XXXL. On-trend pieces starting prices at $19! The range features vegan leather, distressed crew necks, plaid knit duster coats, vibrant satin blouses, print maxi dresses and midi slip skirts.
In a statement addressing the revival, Walmart’s fashion chief Denise Incandela said “Long considered a pioneer in boutique shopping, Scoop was beloved by fashionistas and celebrities on the hunt for up-and-coming designers or that perfect piece to complete their look.” Scoop’s co-founder Stefani Greenfield is still onboard the design process and brand’s development.
