Relax, you are not behind, out of of touch or old-fashioned…Although the term pansexual, credited to Sigmund Freud originated in 1917, we have only just started hearing about it (again)..
Pansexuality is the sexual, romantic or emotional attraction towards people regardless of their sex or gender identity. If you think it sounds a bit like bisexuality then you are almost right… Bisexual refers to individuals that are attracted to both men and women. Pansexuality includes relationships with people who do not strictly identify as men or women (possibly transgender or androgynous), therefore rejecting the gender binary.
Bottom line this is about inclusion. As the world identifies and respects the sexual orientation of everyone new terms will continue to pop up into use in an attempt to cover everyone and everything.
