Gucci Westman is an American top makeup artist, cosmetic designer and the founder of cosmetics line Westman Atelier: ‘A skin care approach to high performance makeup’. Silicone, paraben and phthalate free and formulated with clean plant-based ingredients without jeopardising the desired creamy consistency. Westman is a believer of the ‘second skin’ approach, advocating that cosmetics should go beyond just enhancing by calming, replenishing and balancing the skin. “For that perfect canvas, you really just need a few things — something to balance and even out your complexion, a pop of color to bring it to life, a little dewy highlighter and a touch of bronzer” says the MUA turned business woman.
In one of L’Officiel USA’s video series episodes, Westman revealed that she was diagnosed with rosacea, a long-term skin condition typically affecting the face that causes redness, swelling and acne. She speaks of how she has always wanted to formulate a foundation that “looks and feels amazing but can also target some of my skin issues”, striving to create a versatile multi-purpose product in line with the multi-tasking trait characteristic of most females.
On her thoughts about the beauty and skincare scene, Gucci shared “I found that there’s such a divide between natural and wellness brands that speak one thing and then there’s luxury, there’s no kind of merging of the two.” This is what Gucci herself set out to achieve with her high-end consciously crafted makeup line, basically the Charlotte Tilbury of America. ‘Consciously crafted makeup’ means “luxurious, effortlessly beautiful makeup formulated with clean ingredients and no-compromises integrity. It means balancing perfect shades and buttery textures that melt into the skin with plant-based actives and cutting-edge science. And it means a passionate commitment to researching and reassessing our ingredients as new information comes to light.”
Westman Atelier so far have 13 shades of foundation, contour and blush sticks, a highlight, and a bronzing powder which itself is a blush/contour/bronzer/highlight all in one, a foolproof combination! The line also includes 3 eco-friendly brushes with cruelty-free synthetic bristles and their latest addition, a tinted highlighter infused with antioxidants and hydrators to nourish and enhance. The range is perfect and all you need for achieving refined and sophisticated yet understated looks. When asked by Porter Magazine which beauty myth she would choose to debunk, Westman shared “I would have to say that I would choose to debunk this type of ‘social media makeup’ where you kind of look like a Barbie. I think that women should feel empowered by emphasising their own beauty, amplifying their skin, making themselves look glossy and an improved version of themselves. I think thats much more strengthening, richer and elegant in my mind.”
Westman Atelier have partnered with the net-a-porter and are now available in the UK.
