We’ve said it on numerous occasions in the past few weeks. Fashion hasn’t changed that much, what has actually changed are the pieces. In place of the staple pantsuit we have been given a baggy pant and blouse, in addition to a pleated skirt and blazer. Coats have remained as they are, but with beautiful blouses underneath. Here is a rundown of the blouse trends out there.
The School Girl
This is a really strong trend, gracing almost every runway. Whether it’s a shirt and tie, or shirt and sweater there were plenty of school-girl-inspired looks to go around. Wear these close to the body, and match then to baggy pants or full skirts. The most popular silhouette this season dictates a voluminous bottom, which means the tops need to stay close to the body, otherwise you may look like a balloon.
If you love yourself a bit of drama then this is certainly the trend for you. Blouses were big and beautiful this season. Embellished with feathers, rhinestones or just really great organza. With this trend, seriously go big or go home.
The Knit Sweater
The ski slope sweater, in addition to a jacket-like knit sweater are big for Fall. They are anything but casual, perfectly tucked in, and often belted, this is the new formal. Again, as with the school girl trend, keep these tops close to the body.
That Eighties Blouse
You may remember your mother in one of these silk blouses… They were a big hit in the Eighties for a number of seasons. Usually cut close to the neck, they usually incorporate a scarf or ruching of some sort. Again, tucked in and matched to a tailored bottom.
The Tuxedo Shirt
Last season the tucked in tuxedo jacket was introduced, and although it looked interesting it wasn’t very comfortable. This season the tuxedo jacket has been reimagined in a shirt form, allowing for that same trend from last season to finally be worn!
