If you were gripped by panic and loneliness when the final season of Downton Abbey was revealed, you are not alone. Our favorite TV show, that ran for a total of 6 series, and was regularly watched by 10M Americans and 12M British is being revived for the big screen after a 2 year absence. You heard right, there will be a Downton Abbey movie and recording is ear-marked for September 2017. So many unanswered questions, what became of Tom, did he re-marry ? Will the peace between Edith and Mary hold ? The genius writer for the Downton Abbey series, Julian Fellowes has been tapped to write the screenplay as well, thus guaranteeing that certain DA flavor.
The big question of course remains, which of the stars will be available and included. Thanks to the success of the TV series, the actors’ careers have blossomed. Michelle Dockery who plays Lady Mary told The Telegraph in 2016, “I think there is potential for a film. That is something I would wholeheartedly consider…” Another star was less enthusiast, Dame Maggie Smith who plays the Dowager Countess of Grantham stated, “I just think it’s squeezing it dry, do you know what I mean? I don’t know what it could possibly be. It’s too meandering.”
We at CIIN are particularly hopeful that both Lady Mary and Lady Rose MacClare return to the movie. Their made-for-tv fashion was particularly inspiring. Lily James who plays Rose told WWD in 2016 “I think from doing Downton Abbey, my style really changed…Because I understood accessorizing, because every morning I’d go into my tailor and there’d be different necklaces and earrings and gloves and handbags, and depending on my outfit, I’d pick what I would wear with it. So I learned a lot from Rose’s fashion, actually.”
