Lush Cosmetics UK have opened up fire on social media, specifically Instagram and have announced, via Instagram no less that they will disband their social media channels following a new groundbreaking policy that the beauty company will apply this year. Despite the company’s huge success on social media but they felt that social media is blocking the company’s efforts to directly interact with their customers.
“Social media is making it harder and harder for us to talk to each other directly. We are tired of fighting with algorithms, and we do not want to pay to appear in your newsfeed.” Their announcement read.
Instead the company will resort to old-fashioned customer service and will revert back to interacting with their customers via live chat on their website, or by email or simply by phone.
“This isn’t the end, it’s just the start of something new.” The announcement continued to say.
Whether this is a move on Lush Cosmetics’ part to push Instagram to ease up on their algorithm policies or whether it’s a hard-wired decision, no one yet knows. But given the fact that Lush Cosmetics are extremely active on Instagram, to shift the action away from Instagram is frankly a little disheartening. Lush US seem to be unfazed by all this commotion though. I, for one, am so curious to see where this leads to as we have all started to get a feel of the negative connotations of this whole influencer and social media scene. Good luck with that Lush UK!!
