Once a year some of the biggest lingerie models in the world get together for the extravaganza otherwise known as the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. This time around it’s being held on November 10 (15) and the action is moving back to New York City, where it’ll be staged at the Lexington Armory, having been in London for 2014. It’s also the event’s 20th anniversary and you can bet organisers have some special surprises planned. Here we take a look at what’s in store.
1 || The 2015 Fantasy Bra
Each year one of the luxury lingerie company’s Angels gets the honor of donning the iconic bra, with Lily Aldridge awarded the honor this time around. It’s been designed by Mouawad Jewelry and is worth a cool $2 million, which isn’t so surprising when you hear it’s decorated with 6,808 diamonds, garnets, sapphires, blue topaz and pink quartz stones. There’s some 18 carat gold added for good measure, with a pair of matching briefs created too.
2 || Gigi Hadid
With the departure of Victoria’s Secret regulars like Karlie Kloss and Doutzen Kroes earlier this year (15), some spots opened up on the show’s roster. This paved the way for new faces to join the line-up, among them Gigi Hadid. She was so excited when she heard she’d got a coveted spot on the runway that she burst out crying, all caught on a video which was subsequently posted on Instagram.
3 || Kendall Jenner
Also proving her modelling worth will be Keeping Up with the Kardashians star Kendall Jenner, who has been cast in the show for the first time. The news was confirmed as Kendall celebrated her 20th birthday on Tuesday (03Nov15), with the star calling it the best present she could have dreamed of, because she’s always harbored a desire to appear in the show.
4 || The All-New Angels
While it’s sad to see some of the company’s iconic Angels stepping away from the brand, it does mean that this time around there’ll be a whole new roster hitting the catwalk. Ten new names earned their wings in April, with Kate Grigorieva, Taylor Hill, Elsa Hosk, Martha Hunt, Monika ‘Jac’ Jagaciak, Stella Maxwell, Lais Ribeiro, Sara Sampaio, Romee Strijd and Jasmine Tookes all preparing to glide down the runway.
5 || The Costumes
While we don’t know what all the famous faces will be wearing, we’ve already had a sneak peak at some of the outfits. The Portrait of an Angel, Fireworks and Ice Angel outfits have all the hallmarks of classic Victoria’s Secret pieces – peacock feathers, fringed crystals and huge jewels all over them. Fireworks seems to be a nude body stocking with bright explosions all over, while Ice Angel has an extravagant back piece which looks just like an oversized snowflake.
6 || The Performers
Rihanna was slated to play this time around, but she pulled out because she’s still working on her new album Anti. Brit star Ellie Goulding has stepped in to replace her, joining fellow singers The Weeknd and Selena Gomez on the bill. Be sure to look out for models getting into the spirit – last year (14) Karlie Kloss and Taylor Swift strutted their stuff together as the country-turned-pop icon performed.
7 || The Bodies
Be prepared for some seriously toned figures to hit the catwalk, but don’t get too jealous – these women work hard to ensure they’re looking their best come show time. Adriana Lima has previously admitted she only drinks protein shakes for nine days before the runway and completely cuts out all liquid for the 12 hours immediately before. It’s not just their diet either; the women get a little help in looking their best thanks to a five-strong team which looks after each model, with 100 pounds of body glitter used during prep.
8 || The Set
There’s no word on exactly what’s in store for the show design yet, but you can bet it’s going to be major. Last year’s London show was the most expensive in the company’s history, setting the firm back an estimated $20 million. How much each model is paid hasn’t been released and obviously makes up a lot of that, but it definitely leaves room for a pretty exquisite set. We’re expecting a glitzy runway festooned with glitter at the very least.
