Winter knits are chunky and soft and forgiving.. Not this season though. Our comforting knits have been transformed into pieces of attire meant to attract attention. The body-skimming knit dresses that we’ve seen this season, are now quite familiar to our eye, thanks to Jacquemus that drew attention to the knit dress a few seasons ago. Then of course there is the knit bralette and matching cardigan that were made famous by Katie Holmes’ last winter. What is perhaps less familiar and more interesting to us is the cut out knit. Sweaters and knit dresses alike are sporting cheeky cutouts, highlighting parts of the body, usually left to the imagination when it comes to knitwear.
Which if course leaves us with two questions, what bra shall I wear? Which is a valid question, and its not just about the bra strap not showing. Bodycon knits are unforgiving and you really don’t want rolls of back-cleavage showing through, or worse even; a half empty cup poking out.. It is for occasions like these that I feel that an adhesive gel cup could in fact be your best bet for an afternoon or evening out. Not ideal for a day at the office, but then again neither is a cutout knit when you really come to think about it.
When it comes to accessories, it is actually best to leave the cut out area accessories free. Accentuate and draw attention to the cutout with a pair of bling earrings perhaps. Also it’s important to keep in mind that many articles of clothing this season actually come with their own accessories and hardware. A strong trend for fall was the incorporation of metal chains and rings into the garments themselves which means that you may not feel inclined to accessories at all.
