The past few seasons have been very kind indeed for those of us that love dresses. They have been more of a summer thing though, till now. The winter season has finally caught on to our adoration of the versatile dress. On offer this season are five dress styles that are trending. There are bound to be a few that work for you. Happy shopping.
Military style is trending in general this season. Be it, masculine pocketed pants or brass buttoned soldier jackets. Dresses are also getting the military treatment, not just in obvious accents such as pockets and epaulettes, but also more subtle references such as color and material.
Dress with Blazer
We love this timeless look, and are thrilled that it is back in full-trend swing. The fitted blazer in a variety of lengths is perfectly matched to a midi length dress. The proportions game is essential when wearing this style. Continue to experiment with different dress and jacket lengths till you feel you’ve gotten it right. We always go back to the 1/3 2/3 rule. Generally, the jacket and dress lengths need to fit into these two categories. This means that any outfit needs to be broken down into three thirds. The proportions between the jacket and dress length need to be in a 1/3 2/3 ration for it to work well, with the longer length applicable to both the skirt or the jacket (but not both at the same time).
No surprises here, you have probably seen plenty of leather dresses already. JLo wore a fantastic Zimmermann Burgundy leather dress the other day. There is no silhouette to follow, everything leather works.. From sweater dress style, to button down to full skirt.. Perhaps the only style not trending is a leather sheath mini dress, but you probably haven’t worn one of those in years anyway.
We love sweater dresses, and they are back for yet another season. In the past the dresses have been called sweater dresses because they are knit. This season in addition to that they are also cut like sweaters which is good fun. Choose from full length sweater dresses with deep slits that can be worn with skinny pants or tights, or a more voluminous sweater cinched at the waist.. to name a few styles.
The floral trend that just won’t let up. We have been seeing flower prints for at least 5 years now, and there is no sign of it slowing down as a trend. For this winter the prints are smaller, finer and in winter colors. The dress styles associated with these prints are generally midi in length. Many have a mock turtleneck or cowl neckline, and there will always be an asymmetry of sorts thrown into the mix for good measure.
