Queen B just took to IG to share a series of photos in a Lion King inspired get up, commemorating her role as Nala in the new animation film which will premiere on the 19th of July 2019.
The highly anticipated musical’s director, Jon Favreau, shared in an exclusive interview with Entertainment Weekly that it was the resonance of The Lion King’s story to Beyonce’s personal life and own motherhood that really drew her to play Nala, explaining “I think that part of it is that she’s got young kids, part of it is that it’s a story that feels good for this phase of her life and her career.”
He went onto say “It’s a very positive story, it’s a classic that a lot of people feel very emotionally invested in — and I think she just really likes the original very much.” The Avengers films director and producer revealed that he began speaking with Beyonce while she was working on her sixth studio album Lemonade, sharing how he was in such admiration of the star and that her craft, work ethic and performances very much inspired his own creation. “When I would see her stage shows, it gave me ideas. As I’ve been directing the animation for the past couple of years, ideas have cropped up for me seeing what she was doing as a performer and how that could inform the character that she plays.” Favreau also spoke of how eager and hands-on of a collaborator Bey was especially concerning the film’s innovative virtual-reality techniques, “Whenever she came by to work on it, she was incredibly curious about the technology, and as I showed her the techniques and materials, she rolled up her sleeves and got into the VR and started to mess around with all the tools,” the director recalls. “I think like most people who are at the pinnacle of their industry, she has a really good sense of how new things can inform other things she’s working on. Lemonade was happening around the time we were just beginning to work together, and you could see how art and filmmaking and fashion and music were all interweaving for her.”
The legendary mother of three is also the executive produce of The Lion King soundtrack, having worked with Elton John on recording an original song, Mrs. Carter will definitely be belting out killer vocals to gratify her bey hive.
