Diet Prada, an IG account with nearly 500k followers is a platform that claims to highlight design rip-offs, once-anonymous and later revealed to be created by duo Tony Liu and Lindsey Schuyler has had their own merchandise sold for 12 times as much!
A feud between Diet Prada and Dolce & Gabbana is the highlight today! Diet Prada’s merch was ripped off by the luxury brand when it made fun of Stefano Gabbana. If you’re asking yourself where it all started, it was back in October 2017, when Diet Prada wrote that the Italian couture fashion house had copied Gucci’s fashion display set-up, which set off a chain reaction of events. Gabbana, denying the accusation, demanded an apology from Diet Prada and called its critics “idiots,” after which Gabbana created the hashtag #PleaseSaySorryToMe for his movement.
It gets better! Diet Prada made a shirt with the hashtag and included it in its first major release of merch last month. Dolce & Gabbana has retaliated, selling its own shirt featuring the hashtag for approximately $385 in comparison to Diet Prada’s reasonable $32 price tag. Diet Prada did what it does best and immediately called it out, signing off with the hashtag #pleasesaysorrytous and opening the next chapter of this delightfully stupid fight!
