Street-style veteran and Vogue Italia’s ex-fashion editor, Anna dello Russo has decided that the time has come to shift gears. First off, Dello Russo will begin by selling off her most iconic outfits through famed auction house; Christie’s. At 55 years of age Dello Russo may have had enough of the exhibitionist style she was sometimes accused of, though many couldn’t wait to see what Anna was going to wear next.
“She’s not a natural extrovert. This kind of success isn’t happenstance. She’s crazy about fashion but she’s not crazy.” said Ariela Goggi Vogue Italia’s former vice director. Anna admits to spending massive amounts of money on designer clothing over the years to the extent that she had to take over the next door apartment for lack of space. “Everyone says I’m mad, but if you’re a librarian, what would you spend your money on? Books. My clothes were my books, my alphabet.” Anna admits.
Modelled by Izabel Goulart, Caroline Vreeland, Alessandra Ambrosio, and Hailey Baldwin; Dello Russo auctioned off her favourite designer pieces by the likes of Gianni Versace, Tom Ford for Gucci, and Nicolas Ghesquiére for Balenciaga and making $250,000 in the process. Additionally, there will be around 150 items from Dello Russo’s closet sold through Net-A-Porter. Proceeds will go to the Swarovski Foundation Scholarship Program.
The auction/fashion show was held during Milan Fashion Week and it coincided with the release of her book “AdR: Beyond Fashion” which will include a journal, posters, a scrapbook of photographs, pop-up images, and a sticker album of her most prized looks. With these steps Dello Russo hopes to steer her gears slightly away from the flamboyance she was so famous for towards a more cultured approach to fashion while still emphasising and documenting the street-style phenomenon.
