The people’s new princess has grabbed the hearts of everyone but if she doesn’t pay attention she may start to lose a few…. or many! Ever since Meghan came under the public eye her every action has been scrutinised, criticised and judged and we feel with her! Becoming part of a royal family, however, comes with its own set of written – and some unwritten – rules and regulations, and Meghan has been criticised of breaking royal protocol on a number of occasions. Being such an ardent fan of Meghan – back from her Suits days – I feel that Meghan’s criticisers are becoming more harsh in their judgements lately and I begrudgingly feel inclined to agree!
Meghan has been severely criticised for her extravagance during the 24-hour royal visit to Ireland where she changed into four different designer outfits estimated at $37,000, while her shoes were worth around $2,650. Some were saying that Meghan’s shoes during this trip alone are worth more than what many British families have to live on for a month! And in total it was calculated that since the wedding she must have spent around $205,000 on designer outfits from Givenchy, Dior, Chanel, and Prada, which is by far more than what Kate had spent during her entire first year of marriage.
The Brits are quite the conservative lot and they abhor such displays of either wealth or moral stands; Kate was able to gain the nation’s love by shopping at London’s high-street fashion favourites such as Reiss, Jigsaw and L.K. Bennet in addition to her couture outfits. And what’s even more noticeable is that she recycles her clothes A LOT…. too much in my opinion but the people love her for that!
In addition to being criticised for her extravagance; Meghan has also been criticised for interfering in politics as well as for flaunting her humanitarian efforts on a number of occasions since the wedding and during her visit to Ireland. Meghan has always been vocal about her activities but people do not want her to keep talking about them! We are sure that Meghan will have a positive impact on many issues of interest; but until then people do not want to hear her talk about her previous humanitarian efforts or her pride at being a feminist, and most importantly they do not want her to talk about being a supporter of the liberalisation of abortion laws.
Could this just be a case of being misinformed, which does sound improbable especially with the organisational skills of the Brits! Wouldn’t you think that someone in Meghan’s position would have trusted advisors around to tell her what to wear and how much to spend? Meghan was seen to be holding her hat during Wimbledon’s tennis match yesterday, which she apparently is not allowed to wear while sitting in the Royal Box,,, I wonder if she was informed of that or was she hoping to break protocol again and changed her mind at the last minute!!? I for one have no fear that Meghan will conform sooner rather than later; she’s an exceptionally smart person and I’m sure all this criticism will definitely find its way to her somehow but …. I just hope that this is not someone’s idea of breaking down the aura that is surrounding this fairy-tale princess …. she is still at the very beginning!
