Oprah Winfrey will be giving fans the opportunity to purchase some of her clothes in a forthcoming auction through e-commerce company eBay.
The 62-year-old media mogul moved the office headquarters for her company Harpo Productions from Chicago to Los Angeles after stepping away from legendary daytime talk programme The Oprah Winfrey Show in 2011 and starting her network OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network.
Oprah has been cleaning out the closets at the now defunct Chicago location and she has loads of goodies to share, as the star is auctioning off around 200 items on eBay, including pieces of her clothing and around 20 pairs of shoes.
“When I’m sure something of mine is going to someone who will really use and appreciate it, I’m completely fine with letting go,” she reveals in the March edition of her publication O magazine.
Oprah is finding the process of getting rid of old things very healing. In addition to feeling excitement over someone else being able to use the stuff, the entertainment magnate is also driven by the sense of peace she receives when saying goodbye to items that are no longer useful to hear.
“I want to create a space that gives me access to the stuff that helps me, to things that hold a place of meaning for me,” she said. “Because if you can’t do that, then you’re not using your things. Your things are using you.”
Although Oprah takes on acting roles from time to time, she is mostly busy running her cable network channel OWN.
And when looking at the things she wore while hosting The Oprah Winfrey Show, the star acknowledges the clothing no longer suits her because she is a different person.
“Over time, your tastes change, and that’s fine,” she noted. “I just don’t need all this intense colour, the embellishment, the heels anymore.
“When you’re in front of TV cameras every day, you have to stand out. I’m in a different place now.”
Oprah’s eBay auction kicks off on 1 March (16).
