Kim has been driven and determined since the conception of Skims , dreamt up over a decade ago, telling Cosmopolitan “I know what I want in this area, and that’s not the case with every project I work on, I do get insecure and just “Oh, I hope you like it, I hope people understand this and it’ll translate.’ But this one, I’m like no, I got this. I Know exactly how to make it comfortable and even a bit sexier.”

For the collection’s debut campaign, Kim had the kar-jenner clan model all the designs alongside Alice Marie Johnson, which caused some backlash, and 25 other regular women. Alice Marie Johnson, whom Kim helped release from prison as she was granted clemency for a nonviolent drug offence, talks of her freedom in the brand’s campaign video and how Kardashian “went to war” and then going onto saying that shapewear also helps her “feel free”. This made many on the internet uncomfortable, one person tweeting “This isn’t sh**ing on Kim for trying to help people or pretending like Alice isn’t free to do what she wants (for the first time in a long time), just that it’s skeevy to use the injustices of the criminal justice system as a way to advertise something she’ll make money from.”
