Cate Blanchett Makes A Fashion Statement As She Re-Wears One of Her Popular Gowns!!

Cate Blanchett

Cate Blanchett was either making a hugely-progressive fashion statement or making a fashion faux-pas,,, but we are going with the former assumption…. The Australian actress was seen at the 71st Cannes Film Festival wearing a black lace Armani Privé dress that she had previously worn four years earlier, despite being head of this year’s jury panel. It is exceedingly rare for an A-lister to recycle her clothing let alone to wear such a standout gown at two major events, albeit a few years apart.

Blanchett first wore this gown in 2014 in Los Angeles as she accepted the Golden Globe award for Leading Actress in a Drama Motion Picture for Blue Jasmine. Blanchett is clearly taking a stand on waste as she explains “..landfill is full of garments that have been unnecessarily discarded. Particularly in today’s climate, it seems willful and ridiculous that such garments are not cherished and re-worn for a lifetime.” This sentiment was also shared by Blanchett’s stylist Elizabeth Stewart who said “I think this stigma around re-wearing a dress is arbitrary and makes no sense”.

Blanchett didn’t even bother to accessorise differently this time; she sported a very similar look wearing statement diamond earrings but she did slightly change the hairstyle and makeup. While she wore a low updo and pink lips back in 2014, she had her hair up in a fake bun with berry lips for Cannes. The dress itself is very special for Blanchett and one of her favourites, and it took hundreds of hours to make. She stressed that not only beautiful special dresses should be re-worn but also casual clothing as well. So, do we think Blanchett’s precedent will set a trend in motion?? Only time will tell…
