The 23-year-old international supermodel turned heads in an Emilia Wickstead monochromatic sky-blue caped jumpsuit as she headed to Variety’s Power of Women Event in Manhattan, April 5th 2019. Gigi made sure to stop and generously give paparazzi killer looks and twirls. She paired the look with matching snakeskin stilettos and gold hoops.
Inside the venue, sister Bella was also keeping with the monochromatic theme in a brown leather suit and strapless top
During the event, Gigi got choked up while accepting her honour award speech as she thanked the women who have enriched and empowered her personal life, including her sisters, mother , her ‘Oma’ and her friends, saying “they are beacons of independence and integrity in our family, and I can’t explain what an amazing thing it is to have women like them to look up to.” As she nodded to her sisters Marielle, Alana and Bella, she was overwhelmed with emotion as held back her tears before quickly recollecting herself and continuing loudly and proudly with “Thank you for your love and support everyday of my life. You are talented, you are hardworking, you are creative, kind, loyal, honest, and you are unapologetically yourselves, and you all inspire me in your own ways.”
Hadid spoke alongside Bette Midler, Christiane Amanpour, Taraji P. Henson and Kacey Musgraves about using fame and one’s platform to better the world. Over the past few years, Gigi has done admirable philanthropic work as a UNICEF ambassador. During her speech, Hadid discussed the power of social media and the integral role it played in her activism and raising awareness during her trip to Bangladesh where she visited a refugee camp housing the Rohingya people fleeing Myanmar. “When we asked them how UNICEF could help in different ways, and most importantly, what they wanted us to tell the world about them, what it really boiled down to was that they want an identity,” she said. Hadid stressed the significance of the “gift of identity” throughout her speech. “We can get so stuck in our own heads, and our own worlds can feel very overwhelming at times, but most of us have the true gift of identity, and the power to express ourselves, the power to speak out for those who cannot for themselves, and the power to uplift one another.”
