Bella Thorne has taken many hits from internet trolls alike throughout her career, however this time round its concerning her nightly skincare routine which she shared on Harper’s Bazaar YouTube channel. Her feature on the “Go To Bed With Me” series reveals that her go-to routine is a daily face scrub consisting of olive oil, sugar and lemon… sounds more like an intensive weekly lip scrub to us! Thorne talked of her struggles with cystic acne and how going all-natural was the best route for her. Nonetheless, the internet was nothing short of horrified, calling the routine “a hot mess”, another tweeted “I love Bella but this was a dumpster fire omg”, one comment read “This was the most disturbing #GoToBedWithMe I’ve seen. I cringed so hard when she was scrubbing the skin under her eyes. I normally would say that I can’t wait for Susan Yara to react to this but I think she’d better not since she’s pregnant and I don’t want her to go through any unnecessary stress.”
What further infuriated the internet and self-proclaimed skincare specialists was her assertion that moisturising is optional, sharing “I don’t use moisturiser of anything”. As Bella proceeds to scrub her face quite abrasively, she shares “Make sure you get in all those nooks and crannies, and its good to get under the eyes, most of the time when you wash your face you kind of forget about right under your eye. This is really sensitive skin right here..” viewers were appalled, noting you should never scrub anywhere near the eye area, especially not the delicate skin right under which Bella specifically seemed to target.
Sugar is a harsh exfoliant, especially so when combined with astringent lemon juice, lack of moisturiser to follow and administered on a nightly basis! A madness. One comment read “Just Bella teaching you how to torture your skin”.
What are your thoughts? Are we being too harsh.. would you give this nightly skincare routine the green light? Let us know!
