A new season is here and despite all that we’ve been through and still experience, there are still little joys to be enjoyed and life to be lived. Among the little joys that we can have is playing around with our makeup and skincare; I’m a big fan! To fully embrace and enjoy your summer there are a few skincare and makeup swaps and tweaks that you need to do now; below we’ve chosen the most valuable ones. Happy swapping!
1 || Swap a chemical exfoliator with an enzyme cleanser
You may need to take a step back from all those acids when summer is in full bloom. You may jeopardise your skin and throw away all the benefits of these AHAs and BHAs with a bit of sun exposure. This is of course inevitable during the summer even if you’re wearing your SPF religiously. But that doesn’t mean you should skip the thorough cleaning, it just means that you should introduce an enzyme cleanser into your routine.
2 || Swap full-coverage foundation with a tinted moisturiser, BB cream, or a CC cream.
Even the best foundations will have a tendency to cake and settle into lines and pores during the hot months, and powder will stop the skin from breathing. You best alternatives in this case is either a tinted moisturiser, a BB or a CC cream. Tinted moisturisers are the lightest and will give you a sheer coverage. BB creams are also light albeit more pigmented, while CC creams offer the most coverage for they are color-correcting after all.
3 || Swap retinol with an active serum
Retinol during the summer will irritate your skin and make it prone to sun damage. So if you’re spending any time in the sun your safest bet is to scale down on the retinol and switch to other active ingredients such as antioxidants, vitamins C & E, peptides, & hyaluronic acid.
4 || Swap powder bronzer and blush with cream or liquid
To acquire the dewy look this summer and to avoid looking drab and dull switch up your powder bronzer and blush with formulas that are cream or liquid. Accentuate your skin while allowing it to shine through with these softer and more diffused products.
5 || Swap setting powder with a multipurpose primer
Though this probably goes against everything you’ve ever believed in, but perhaps the key is in giving it a try. Next time you apply your makeup try out this blurring primer that’s been sitting there among your makeup items collecting dust. Makeup artists believe the key to achieving a flawless finish lies in your primer for they control oil and hide away your pores and other imperfections. More points if you score a primer with SPF such as this number by SVR.
6 || Swap your regular lipstick with a lip tattoo, liquid lipstick, or a sheer lip stain
Despite claims that liquid lipstick is not your ideal choice for a summer makeup item, but COVID-19 has greatly impacted the way we do things… for now! Even though summer makeup is all about the glow, but your matte liquid lipstick can be your friend for now! Another great option for summer lips is a sheer lipstick that can give you a stain-like diffused wash of color that is low maintenance such as Glossier’s option.
