Makeup trends, just like everything else in life, have a lifecycle! One minute we’re hoarding liquid matte lipsticks by the dozens, only to return back to glosses the next minute. Makeup trends, especially skin trends are all gravitating towards the GLOW right now. Remember when heavy contouring was the IN thing, like yesterday? Well now there’s a new glow in town…Buttery Skin! Yes buttery skin is a new term that means a whole new level of glow similar to the glassy skin obsession that took over a while back.
While buttery skin is all about the makeup; glass skin is centred on skincare …major hydration that creates plumpness and bounciness. Buttery skin on the other hand will help you achieve a silky smooth texture much like an actual stick of butter by loading on LIGHT layers of glow-inducing products. To get to the bottom of this radiant, glistening look check out the tips and products needed below…
1 || Prep The Skin
Normal/combination skin types can achieve this look easily while drier skin types might need more help with the hydration. Use an exfoliator to get rid of any dull patches of skin and to boost your natural glow. Follow it up with a hydrating mask or moisturiser; use a rich moisturiser if your skin is on the dry side.
2 || Primer
Since this look is based on layering, aim to apply the thin layers with a light touch. Use an illuminating primer on the high points of your face and gradually smooth it onto the rest of your face.
3 || Foundation
Since we want to achieve the maximum dewiness we can get, we will need to apply a light-reflecting foundation using our fingertips since the heat from our fingers warms up the foundation and lends it a more natural-looking feel. Another tip is to mix a pearlescent liquid highlighter with your foundation; just a tiny amount will do. Press it onto your skin with your fingers; it’s more difficult using your fingers but it works better for this look.
4 || Cheeks
Again to achieve maximum levels of glisten you will need to use cream and liquid formulas of everything. The only powder allowed in this look is the contour so it doesn’t get lost amidst all the luminosity. Apply cream blush and highlighter using your fingers for application, go over them with a beauty blender to soften the edges.
5 || Balm
Herein lies the secret to this whole look! Invest in a clear face balm that can give you the lit-from-within glow without the shimmer and sparkle. Apply it to your cheekbones, eyelids, cupid’s bow, and you can even dab a dot on the centre of your lower eyelids, right between your lashes.
6 || Mist
Last but not least is a spritz of a dewy setting spray to seal in the whole look. Be generous with it.
