Nothing would excite us more than a fab collaboration between one of our favourite makeup brands, case in point, NARS, with another equally fabulous fashion label “Erdem”. The collection entitled Strange Flowers – which took two years in the making – was showcased at Erdem’s autumn/winter 2018 show. Erdem who is known for his inclination towards anything floral has long since been a fan of NARS and has collaborated with the brand backstage for his shows for the past five years.
The über romanic collaboration features luscious items in otherworldly pale blue floral-embossed packaging. The star product is an innovative lip powder ..yes lip powder …to recreate the effect of the 1940’s prominent ultra matt red lip. “I Love the effect of stamped-in, really matt red lips. They remind me of my mother who would always wear a red lip as a sign she was ready to go out and face the world.” Erdem explained.
Makeup artist Val Garland created three different looks using the upcoming Nars x Erdem line. They were inspired by everything aristocratic and floral. For one of the looks, the red powdered lip was paired with glossy eyes and dewy skin. This look was created using Nars Radiant Longwear Foundation, Soft Matte Concealer and Soft Velvet Loose Powder, and finally using another marvellous item from the new collection – White Phox – a multi-use highlighting pencil.
The second look was all about the eyes and they used a gorgeous black lip gloss on the eyes to create the required effect, while the third look featured deep aubergine lips also part of the Strange Flowers collection. The six different lipsticks included in the collaboration aim to capture the essence of women and their moods with shades aptly named Moon Orchid and Carnal Carnation. The line will also feature blotting papers which were inspired by Erdem’s sister who used the Japanese version of these back in high school.
The collaboration will be launched in the UK on April 15th, and globally on May 1st. And we have no doubt this collection will sell out just as his 2017 collaboration with H&M did.
