Being locked behind closed doors should be a perfect opportunity for us to tackle the things that we always wish to do but never exactly get the time. Experimenting with makeup for example! The weather will warm up in no time and soon we will be out of this ordeal, and what better way to face the world than by having a glowing, spring-ready face. Read below for a dose of makeup inspiration that can keep you busy experimenting now, for a face that is so ready for spring!
1 || Double Application
The glow is still on but we need to make sure it’s the right kind of glow. To ensure your makeup is sweat-proof and stays put, you will need to master the art of double application or layering your products. When applying your skincare products followed by your makeup routine, the layers will need to be thin and of different textures. You cannot, for instance, layer powder on powder this is how things get cake-y, but powder over cream will allow for the glow. You just need to wait until the cream has dried. If you apply a cream blush set it with powder blush, and you can set the liquid eyeliner with shadow. Every facial part will need double application and sometimes triple, think primer, foundation or tinted moisturiser and setting powder.
2 || Watercolor Shadow
One of the biggest trends of spring makeup is the watercolor eyeshadow which may seem a little intimidating at first. You do not have to go all out though, you can start with one vibrant color and gradually build it up from there if you’re brave enough. When applying the colors, push the colors unto your skin so that the colors will be vivid and vibrant enough even if you end up using one color only. Use a stiff flat-top brush for a precise application, and the good thing here is that you do not need to blend. IF you go for two or three shades of shadow, balance them out with nude lips and light blush.
3 || Minimise It
During the warmer months you will need to invest in effective products that allow you to use a minimum number of products with maximum results. Aim to find a base that is versatile in terms of giving the kind of coverage you need, and one that has SPF as well. If you use a fluffy brush you can have a lighter coverage than if you use a foundation brush or a Beautyblender. Moreover, your finishing powder should be lightweight, yet you cannot reapply during the day if your skin becomes a little oily. In this case you will need to use blotting papers first and then reapply your powder.
4 || It’s All About The Under Eyes
The lower eyelid gets the royal treatment this season. Makeup artists put out a number of makeup tips out there catering for the lower eyelid. You can rim your lower lids with purple which is a big trend, or you can use any color that is in direct contrast to what you’re wearing on the upper eyelid (orange and blue for example). You can also rim your eyes with smudgy kohl, then tap silver glitter underneath.
5 || Strong Lips
Lips this season are making bold statements. Taking our makeup inspiration from the runways, we find Bella in goth lipstick at Max Mara, and cherry-red lipstick at Prabal Gurung. These strong matte colors require prepping your lips by scrubbing them first, putting on lip balm and then applying the color. You can pair your vampy lips with sheer gray eyeshadow for maximum effect.
6 || Show A Little Skin
If you love your skin to show through your makeup then we’ve got a few products for you that keep your skin looking like itself. But that doesn’t mean that we don’t get to apply anything, on the contrary, the trick is in the product and the layering. Prep your face well before applying the rest of the products. Urban Decay has a whole line of products that are long-lasting yet allow your skin to shine through.
