Microneedling Patches

If it feels overwhelming at times; this overflowing stream of beauty products that one must try then I advise you to skip this article! But on a second thought, it might include a solution for some of your skin woes so you better continue reading! Microneedling patches are a new innovation that combines the satisfaction of putting on a sheet mask with the effectiveness of a much stronger treatment. To the inexperienced eye – or any eye for that matter – these patches look quite similar to undereye patches or acne patches, but they’re not just that. So what exactly are microneedling patches and are they worth the hype??

What Are They?

Microneedling patches might look like regular biocellulose or hydrocolloid strips that are used to treat acne or undereye problems, but these are thicker and spikier. However, the microneedling aspect – if you’re a little apprehensive about that – comes from the tiny spikes which are only skincare ingredients that are believed to resemble the benefits of microneedling. Or more accurately put, these patches are believed to encourage the skin to behave as if it were undergoing actual microneedling, minus the tool.

How Are They Used?

When you apply the patches, you are required to press down on the patches and to massage the area gently. A mild prickling sensation is expected but it’s no where near anything that’s felt with a microneedling tool. The feeling will subside as the skincare ingredients start to dissolve and get absorbed. It is recommended that these patches be placed between two hours and some are required to be placed overnight, depending on the band.

What Do They Contain?

These patches include varying ingredients that depend on your skin’s needs and requirements. In most cases you will find a combination of hyaluronic acid, some form of collagen and peptides if the patches are to be used to provide hydration and target collagen production. If the patches are to treat acne you can expect to find salicylic acid, tea tree oil, and perhaps some niacinamide. But this all varies depending on the use and the brand.

What’s So Special?

It is believed that these patches are able to help the skincare ingredients better penetrate the skin and thus become more efficient than a regular sheet mask. It is also believed that these patches are able to stimulate collagen production and encourage circulation just like a regular microneedling tool does.

What To Expect?

Research showed that users of such patches witnessed an improvement in the structure, function, and appearance of their skin. Some also found these patches to brighten their skin.
